QUALITY IN WHAT WE DO AND WHO WE WORK WITH
Albemarle in Australia has invested in quality joint venture partnerships focused on securing and transforming lithium as an essential element.
Creating more impactful solutions through collaboration is how we help our world to grow and prosper. Our key Australian partnerships are the MARBL Lithium Joint Venture for the Wodgina Mine with Mineral Resources Ltd and the Talison Lithium Shareholding in the Greenbushes Lithium Mine.
MARBL Lithium Joint Venture
Albemarle and Mineral Resources Limited (MinRes) are partners in the MARBL lithium joint venture in Western Australia.
The JV covers the Wodgina Lithium Mine - one of the world’s biggest hard rock lithium deposits - in the Pilbara in the State’s north, and each company has a 50:50 share in Wodgina.
Wodgina’s first spodumene concentrate plant had a 2022 nameplate operating capacity of 250,000 metric tonnes per year. At full capacity with two additional plants, Wodgina will produce 750,000 dry tonnes of spodumene concentrate per year, underpinned by a 30+ year mine life.
Wodgina is operated by MinRes on behalf of the JV and the site has its own 700-bed accommodation village and an airfield capable of landing A320 aircraft. It is equipped with its own 64MW natural-gas fired power plant (32 each 2 MW generators) and 0.8 gLa reverse osmosis water treatment plant for borefield and surface water recycling & purification, as well as an insite wastewater plant for sewage treatment.
